  • ** Have each student write a positive comment about every student in their class on 3x5 cards. Pass the notes to the children they describe and have them make a collage of the answers.
    • Ask students to perform a random act of kindness for a stranger and then write a journal entry about the experience, how it made them feel, and the reaction of the person who received their kindness. This would be a great wall, bulletin board or room display.
    • Provide time for students to start a kindness journal in which they can keep their own kindness stories, pictures, ideas or feelings about Random Acts of Kindness.
    • Ask students to think about a time they hurt someone's feelings by being unkind. Have them rewrite the situation with a different outcome. As an extension activity, they could perform both experiences as a skit.
    • Ask students to choose two people who have done something nice for them. Have them write letters of appreciation, explaining how those people have made a difference in their lives.
    • Locate various quotes about kindness. Have students illustrate them and put the posters around the room.
    • Conduct a written kindness search. Have students search the newspaper, magazines, or Internet resources for stories showing Random Acts of Kindness. Have them write a summary and share with the class.
    • After students have finished a novel or story assigned, ask them to write a poem or interior monologue from the point of view of one of the characters. Give them time to "get under the skin" of the character and imagine his/her emotion.
    • Research kind people in history. Have students write a report, prepare a monologue as the person, and share with the class
    • Create Valentine Day Cards and tape them to each person's locker.
    • Write notes of appreciation to the cafeteria workers, custodians, office staff and other people who normally do not receive encouragement or appreciation.
    • Ask Tiger TV director if students can read quotes or stories about kindness on the morning or afternoon announcements. Have students select appropriate content to share.
